Responsibility

Responsibility connects us, empowers us, binds us to our community, and challenges us to do what is right. Clean water, safe roads, efficient energy, resilient power sources, and buildings that enhance their surroundings – these are significant responsibilities we take to heart. At CHA, we believe in responsibly improving the world we live in, and we ask our team to aspire to that ideal every day. At the foundation of our responsibility is our commitment to inclusion and diversity and choosing to treat everyone with dignity and equality. We also take accountability for making decisions that promote sustainability in our business and our designs. We are on a mission to reduce our environmental footprint and bring greener solutions to our clients. We believe it is our responsibility and work to do that each and every day.

Sustainability

We invite you to read our 2021 Sustainability Report detailing progress made in CHA’s efforts to create a more environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable future.

Sustainability is at the core of how we conduct our business. Responsibly Improving the World We Live In is what we do every day to inspire our employees, elate our clients and create value for our employees, clients, business partners, and communities. This long-term value creation enables a growing and sustainable company now and into the future. We continue to make progress against the goals established in our 2019 Sustainability Report and 2020 Sustainability Report.

Inclusion and Diversity

We are committed to the values of inclusion, diversity and equality, and to the full participation of all people. These are core company values at the heart of who we are as an organization. While it begins with our aspiration to responsibly improve the world we live in, it goes far beyond that in all that we do in our business and in our personal lives. CHA has and will continue to embrace and celebrate the diversity of voices our employees, clients, partners, and communities represent.

To build diverse teams, we leverage recruiting processes to ensure we are identifying and presenting the most qualified and diverse candidates for employment. We are committed to meeting our clients’ Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOB) goals to the greatest extent possible and regularly look for opportunities to partner with them and engage them in our projects. We have also formed an Inclusion & Diversity Council with more than 20 colleagues from across the organization. Our team will strive to find new ways to interact, to learn from each other, and to improve our world – and we’ll take action that will propel us forward as a company that is progressive, inclusive, respectful, and forward-leaning.

Health & Safety

CHA’s culture of caring empowers our people to take ownership of safety and is the foundation of proactive health and safety engagement from all levels of the organization. We have adopted a people-first approach to health and safety, and it is a well-established component of our culture. We maintain a comprehensive safety program that reinforces our people-first approach by focusing on minimizing the risk of workplace incidents, injuries, and exposure to hazards for our employees, partners, and the general public. We provide our staff with robust safety education, on-the-job coaching/mentoring, and the necessary safety engagement tools.

Safety is a critical element of our overall risk management processes and is embedded in all projects. Our project managers are trained and required to identify, assess and plan to control safety risks associated with the planned work activities of our project staff.
