Virgin Islands Storm Damage Assessment
CHA provided services for assessing electric utility infrastructure and data collection from the storm damage caused by the back-to-back Category 5 Hurricanes Irma and Marie in the Virgin Islands. Storm damage included over 70% destruction to overhead electric distribution, widespread and prolonged outages, and significant damage to structures, bringing the economy to a halt. To determine the type of FEMA funds available, an assessment was needed to verify if the restoration was a replacement in kind or an upgrade. The restoration was completed in 100 days with zero safety issues.
