University of South Carolina, Beckham Field
After more than 25 years of use, Beckham Field has had its outdated softball stadium replaced with a larger facility. Visitors enter the stadium’s upper concourse via a spacious entry plaza that extends off the main spine of the University’s Athletic Village. The new stadium accommodates 1,400 people. A fully-equipped press box opens up the axis and creates a dramatic architectural expression with the articulation of the cantilevering roof.
Visitors amenities include concessions and restrooms, while student athletes and coaches have access to player locker rooms, changing rooms, showers, coaches’ support areas, meeting rooms, and training facilities. Dugout are protected by a deep overhang that shields players from the elements while keeping the field visible. Natural daylight illuminates interior spaces as well as an adjacent batting cage. Around the stadium, brands and signs underscore the softball program’s unique identity.
