Schenectady County Brownfield Assessment

The goal of the Schenectady County Brownfield Assessment project is to encourage the redevelopment and reuse of abandoned, deteriorated, and underutilized properties in Schenectady County, where redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. The first task is to create an inventory of 50 prospective sites within the 92 square mile study area. Stakeholders will then meet to prioritize and select sites for environmental assessment and review. CHA will complete Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) of 20 priority sites. Next, eleven of the highest priority sites will be selected to be the subject of Phase II investigation programs, which will quantify the potential for soil and/or groundwater contamination and/or the presence of asbestos-containing building materials.
