In an overall effort to maintain and improve site operational and energy efficiency, Recycled Energy Development, LLC (RED-Rochester) and New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) contracted CHA for a full-time On-site Energy Manager position from April 2017 to July 2018. The program’s goal was to achieve a 3.5% reduction in energy consumed.
RED-Rochester is a multi-utility generation plant and district energy supplier to Eastman Business Park’s (EBP) 1,200-acre campus in Rochester, New York. Red-Rochester owns and operates 28 buildings that provide continuous utility services to over 70 industrial and commercial tenants, including the Eastman Kodak Company.
Over 100 energy conservation projects were identified with several implemented or awaiting implementation. Many activities were completed to coordinate and communicate with RED-Rochester personnel, identify target areas, collect data, and develop efficiency projects and cost estimates. Efforts included more than 80 meetings and 65 targeted walkthroughs or inspections.
These 100+ projects position RED-Rochester’s utility assets and EBP to attract customers, offer competitive service, and conserve energy. As of June 2018, the trailing 12-month (May 2017 through June 2018) Overall Site Efficiency had reached 54.23%, equating to an improvement of 3.26% compared to the 2016 baseline. Maintaining this level of improvement equates to an annual savings of 517,341 MMBtu HHV (natural gas and electric combined).
