Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine

The Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine was designed specifically for surgery patients. This extensive renovation of an existing nursing unit resulted in a facility that supports the most current orthopedic surgeries, resulting in faster patient recovery. Sixteen patient rooms originally configured as doubles were reconfigured into private rooms with accessible bathrooms. A former day room was redesigned as a physical therapy space, providing therapy without leaving the unit, and clinical support space was brought up to current standards. The nurses' station was fully enclosed, allowing full visibility of patient rooms and corridor traffic while keeping noise to a minimum.
