NYSDOT Culvert Inventory and Inspection
CHA worked as a subconsultant to complete a comprehensive inventory and inspection of over 7,000 small culverts throughout Central New York State’s Mohawk Valley Region. As the project’s technology lead, CHA was in part responsible for automating the data collection process. Our team used state-of-the-art GPS data collectors linked wirelessly to digital cameras to streamline field operations and reduce the collection time for measurements, condition information, photographs, and GPS coordinates. We also developed and hosted a project collaboration website that allowed project teams to easily upload field data to the main office for processing. The site provided an interactive status map for NYSDOT to track the progress of crews while they were in the field and periodically review GIS deliverables.
