Norfolk Southern Corporation -- New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, and Indiana
For more than 10 years, CHA has had a bridge on-call contract with Norfolk Southern Railroad covering New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Projects have included in-depth inspection; deterioration documentation; load capacity computations; culvert repair and replacement; detailed repair drawings and sequencing; environmental permitting; and construction estimates for railroad bridges, culverts and highway overpasses.
CHA has also provided environmental screening and permitting of infrastructure for the implementation of positive train control (PTC) systems. CHA’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Information Technology (IT) professionals developed a web-based tower management and mapping application for automating the desktop screening of PTC tower locations in relation to wetlands, floodplains, ecological, tribal, historic, and cultural resources.
Our GIS and IT professionals worked closely with our environmental engineers and scientists to streamline the PTC environmental screenings to keep costs low while delivering a quality product in record time. In a little more than a year, we automated and completed NEPA screenings and reporting for more than 1,100 sites across six states.
