Project : Northwest Missouri State University, Carl & Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse

Northwest Missouri State University — Maryville, Missouri

The 137,250 square-foot, $20 million Northwest Missouri State University Multi-Purpose Indoor Activity Center, now known as the Carl & Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse, is a cornerstone of Northwest Missouri State University and the Maryville community. Its flexible design welcomes year-round athletic practice, tradeshows, community events, and intramural activities.

A 300-meter, 6-lane indoor competition track—one of only about a dozen in the country—encircles the 90-yard turf field. The facility was also designed with a sub-dividable room that can be used for classes, club meetings, and community events. Additionally, the fieldhouse features locker/changing space, satellite sports medicine suite, and 380 retractable spectator seats. Netting and divider curtains allow teams to train at the same time, including baseball/softball, football, soccer, tennis, recreational/intramural athletics, and band.

The Carl & Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse represents the single largest public-private partnership in Northwest’s 113-year history and one of the largest such projects in the region. It is testimony to the ability of faculty, students and the community to unite in creating a gathering place that will serve the social, recreational and economic needs of the University and region for years to come.
