Monogram Foods -- Martinsville, VA
CHA and H&V Consulting designed and CHA Tech Services constructed a new 200,000 gpd industrial wastewater pretreatment facility to support the expansion of Monogram Foods’ production facilities in Martinsville, Virginia. The new pretreatment facility treats the process wastewater using an anaerobic contact process, and the biogas produced during treatment is used to produce both heat for the pretreatment facilities and power for the manufacturing plant operations. The plant is a model for both energy efficiency and sustainable waste treatment, and it includes the following elements:
- 1.5 million gallon anaerobic reactor with dissolved air flotation separation that allows the reactor solids residence time and hydraulic to be separated, assuring a high degree of treatment
- 100,000 gallon moving bed biological reactor to polish the anaerobic process effluent
- 400 kW engine-generator that utilizes the biogas generated during treatment to produce power and thermal energy for plant operations
- Inedibles processing facility used to shred and slurry meat scraps before blending them with captured grease to augment the digester feed and energy production.
The treated wastewater is discharged to the local sanitary sewer in full compliance with local regulations and limits.
