I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project

CHA is part of the CEI Team for the I-395 Project. Improvements consist of the reconstruction of 1.4 miles of I-395 from I-395/SR 836/I-95 Interchange (Midtown Interchange) to the MacArthur Causeway Bridge, and the partial widening of the EB MacArthur Causeway Bridge as well as the widening of ramps connecting to SR 836; improvements to the N. Miami Avenue/NE 2nd Avenue/NE 1st Avenue/Biscayne Boulevard intersection; and ramp construction. CHA’s CEI role is to oversee the construction of the MDX improvements, which consist of adding new WB and EB Collector Distributor (CD) facilities, widening the SR 836 mainline to provide an additional 12' lane in each direction as well as 10' inside and outside shoulders and adding a new exit ramp at NW North River Drive. The EB CD will separate NW 12th Avenue traffic from SR 836 traffic, with direct connections to I-395 and I-95 to alleviate current weaving conditions. The WB CD will provide a direct connection to NW 14th Street and NW North River Drive (access to NW 12th Avenue) from SB I-95 and continue to WB SR 836. The project requires replacement of all concrete pavement within the project limits as shown in the concept plans, improvements to surface streets in areas under and adjacent to SR 836, modification of five existing parking facilities and two temporary parking facilities during construction, the preservation of a historical site in the area known as “Grove Park” on the NE quadrant of the SR 836 Bridge over the Miami River, a new fender system in the Miami River, and improvements to drainage, roadway lighting, ITS systems and two new Open Road Tolling (ORT) sites.
