Greenside Presidential Helicopter Hangar and Airfield Improvements

The U.S. Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron One, also known as HMX-1, has a critical mission: transporting the President and other high-ranking officials to their destinations quickly and securely. To accommodate contemporary needs, substantial enhancements were imperative to modernize the outdated facilities.

The new hangar facility for the Presidential Helicopter Squadron HMX-1 is an impressive design-build project that includes state-of-the-art features. With 63,880 SF of space, the hangar can accommodate the existing fleet of CH-53 Sikorsky helicopters and MV-22 Osprey aircraft, ensuring that HMX-1 has the necessary resources to transport government officials quickly and safely. The facility also includes 237 feet of clear-span hangar space, administrative, medical, dental, storage, and support areas, making it a comprehensive solution for HMX-1's needs.

Overcoming challenges like the intricate aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) fire suppression system, 13.2 kV underground primaries, and robust foundation systems, our team met AT/FP requirements and achieved LEED Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The result? A world-class facility that provides HMX-1 with the space and resources they need to carry out their mission with the highest levels of safety and efficiency.
