Con Edison and Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc. | Engineering, Designing and Drafting Services

For over a decade, CHA has been a trusted partner to Con Edison and its subsidiary, Orange & Rockland (O&R) Utilities. CHA extended its partnership an additional five years to encompass a wide range of services, including substation and protection and control engineering for Con Edison and transmission engineering for O&R.

As part of Con Edison’s Transformer Replacement Program, CHA is upgrading the East 63rd Street substation in New York City by replacing two transformers and enhancing the auxiliary protection and control system between the East 63rd Street and Queensbridge substations. CHA prepared for the transformer replacement by providing PE-stamped foundation drawings and retrofitting the existing pit with a cast-in-place foundation and steel framing to support the current pier system. Extensive review of existing drawings and a geotechnical investigation ensured seamless integration. CHA’s design features a grating system for safety and accessibility, rigorous oil containment measures to mitigate environmental risks, and detailed plans for conduit layouts and underground components. We also strategically incorporated grounding provisions to ensure operational stability and transformer safety.
