Clemson University, Norman Track

CHA was initially asked to study the feasibility of modifying Clemson University’s indoor track and field complex. The university wanted to convert their flat 200M track to a world-class 200M banked track. CHA designed a new state-of-the-art elevated 200M fixed bank indoor track along with two elevated long/triple jump runways, one elevated pole vault runway and eight sprint lanes on the infield. The banked track allows athletes to smoothly transition and maintain speed from the straightaways to the turns. Furthermore, higher level runners and jumpers are able to use the “spring” effect that elevated runways and ovals afford them. The new facility now allows the university to host collegiate and high school meets, as well as daily training for athletes.
