BUF Baggage Claim Expansion

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority sought to address passenger, automobile, and baggage congestion at Buffalo Niagara International Airport that had resulted from increased passenger traffic and 9/11 security requirements. To achieve this objective, an approximately 60,000-square foot, two-story addition will be constructed west of the airport’s main entrance. The first level will house two new sloped plate baggage claim carousels, covered/canopy passenger pickup area, corridor to the existing FIS offices, and the new baggage loading area. The second level will be used for a passenger exit, a meet and greet area, passenger amenities, and shell space for future use. This project also replaces two flat plate baggage claim carousels with one new slope plate carousel in the terminal area. A new single-story, 5,000-square foot addition will also be built on the air-side adjacent to the east side of the main entrance to house the new baggage inbound load belts.
