Bridgton Hospital Emergency Department
Although newly built in 2000, it wasn’t long before Bridgton Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) volumes outpaced its capacity. The Lakes Region is a popular vacation destination, and visits to the ED swell during the summer months. A thoughtful patient who frequented the ED came forward with a significant donation and a challenge to improve conditions at what looked like a dark 1960s-era bus station.
The project is the first of several phases that will increase patient throughput and improve handicap accessibility. The new entrance and landscaping replaced what resembled a concrete loading dock, and the waiting room is filled with natural light and at least doubles its former size. Staff visibility has greatly improved, and navigating the space is much easier for wheelchair-bound patients.
