BHM Terminal Modernization
This project renovated and expanded the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport commercial air terminal. The existing 287,000-square foot facility had 19 gates arranged in two concourses. The facility size was increased to 440,000 square feet with 25 gates arranged in three concourses and given the capability of receiving international commercial flights. The project was designed to be constructed in two phases to keep the airlines operational during the renovation.
CHA developed two sets of phased construction documents to accommodate the tenants’ telecommunications needs. The phased construction documents included:
- Complete design and documentation of telecommunication systems
- Expansion and relocation of the existing video surveillance system
- Expansion and relocation of access control systems
- Design of Multi-user Flight Information Display Systems (MUFIDS)
- Design systems for emergency operations center
- Public address system design
- Coordination with telephone service provider for installation of central demarcation point with extended demarcation points
