Luther J. Taylor, Sr. Fire Training Center Earns Excellence in Construction Award

CHA had the pleasure of designing the new Luther J. Taylor Sr. Fire Training Center in South Bend, IN. This facility will allow the fire department to train new and current employees at the department’s convenience.  "Let's just say it's been on the department's wish list for a long time,” said the current fire chief. The new facility earned a 2014 Excellence in Construction Award in the Category of Masonry-Municipal, presented by the Michiana Area Construction Industry Advancement Fund (MACIAF).

CHA’s responsibilities included design of the following:

  • 5,800 sqft training center/classroom building with office space, kitchen, etc.
  • 8,000 sqft Candidate Physical Aptitude Training (CPAT) building
  • Coordination and electrical design for a new 2-story Class A Burn Building
  • Coordination and electrical design for a new 5-story training tower
  • Site: pavement, drainage, water supply, sanitary sewer and permitting
  • Construction administration
