CHA Earns Three Awards in National ACEC Competition

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) is excited to announce it has been awarded three National Recognition Awards in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2020 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition. CHA’s award-winning projects include the Cass Adams CSO Relief Sewer, Bowdoin College’s Whittier Field Athletic Complex Renovations, and the Lake Champlain PV-20 Submarine Cable Replacement. These outstanding projects were recognized at ACEC’s 2020 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, a virtual broadcast held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

The National ACEC EEA competition—the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry”—recognizes projects from across the United States for exceptional achievement in engineering. To be eligible to compete in the National ACEC EEA competition, projects must first win at the state level. ACEC’s National Recognition Award is a prestigious distinction honoring projects for excellence in state competitions, which did not receive a national Grand or Honor Award.

The Cass Adams CSO Relief Sewer project was a major control measure in the City of Evansville’s plan to address the Ohio River’s water quality. The project restored Bee Slough, a large open concrete-lined swale conveying most of the city’s combined sewer overflows. The project received an Honor Award in the ACEC Indiana EEA competition before competing at the national level.

Bowdoin College’s Whittier Field Athletic Complex Renovation in Brunswick, Maine, renovated one of the most storied collegiate football fields in America. CHA initially entered the two-phase renovation of this 1896 field in the ACEC Maine EEA competition, where it earned an Honor Award for Integrating Historic Preservation in Engineering Design.

The Lake Champlain PV-20 Submarine Cable Replacement project removed and replaced seven 50-year-old oil-filled cables beneath Lake Champlain, which connected transmission systems in New York and Vermont. Originally, the project earned a Diamond Award in the New York ACEC EEA competition in the Energy Category before advancing to the national stage.
