CHA Earns Awards in ACEC of New York's 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) is pleased to announce it has earned three awards – two gold and one silver- in the ACEC New York 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards.  

CHA earned a Gold Award in the structural systems category for its design of the Albany Capital Center.  This 82,000-sq. ft., two-story conference center is the catalyst for future business and entertainment opportunities in the heart of the Capital Region. Designed with direct connections to the Empire State Plaza, Times Union Center and the Performing Arts Center (EGG), the Capital Center features expansive, flexible meeting space with a view of the Albany skyline.

The Albany-Schenectady Double Track/Rensselaer Station 4th Track project received a Gold Award in the transportation category for reducing delays and improving reliability for passenger rail along the Empire Corridor. The redevelopment of Albany-Rensselaer Station, the ninth busiest station in the United States, included a new fourth track, switch and signal improvements, and high-level platform extensions. The Albany-Schenectady Double Track improvements laid the framework for future high-speed capacity improvement, rehabilitating 21 culverts and 16 bridges on the 17 miles of track between the cities of Rensselaer, Albany and Schenectady.

CHA also earned a Silver Award in the environmental category for the successful remediation of the former Town of Salina landfill. CHA was originally retained in 1998 to investigate and remediate this 55-acre New York State inactive hazardous waste site. Overcoming numerous challenges—site ownership by five different parties, utilities, wetlands, waste on either side of a stream through the landfill, and soils consisting of low strength peat—CHA successfully took a blighted site and gave the public a known and acceptable solution of the highest quality.

Winners will be honored at the 2018 Engineering Excellence Gala in New York City on April 7, 2018.  In addition to New York State, CHA has received 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards from ACEC of Georgia, Virginia and Indiana.
