ACEC Virginia Recognizes CHA for Key Sports Project

Posted February 8, 2021

CHA’s partnership with Draper Aden on the Henrico County High Schools Athletic Improvements has been named a winner in the 2021 ACEC Virginia Engineering Excellence Awards.

These awards recognize CHA and its peer firms for “projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement, and value.”

CHA provided design services for the conversion of the existing natural grass football stadium fields to new multi-use synthetic turf stadium fields as well as reconstruction of running tracks. The project also included drainage, grading, and stormwater improvements as needed. Conversion to synthetic turf has a direct year-round impact on the experience of athletes, providing fields that are in better condition and usable year-round despite the weather.  The synthetic turf and track improvements have opened these facilities up to significant community use benefiting residents of Henrico County.

We’re consistently surprised by the ingenuity displayed in the projects of firms throughout the Commonwealth. These projects make a noticeable difference in our communities,” said Nancy Israel, Executive Director of ACEC Virginia. “The judges noted that Innovation stole the show, explaining how entering firms demonstrated the use of innovations and current technology in ever-changing ways.”

The award was presented virtually on February 4, 2021.
