"A Remarkable Composition" - Irwin M. Jacobs Elementary School Awarded William W. Caudill Citation

The Irwin M. Jacobs Elementary School in New Bedford, Massachusetts, has been awarded the William W. Caudill Citation as the top Pre-K—12 entry in the 2019 American School & University Architectural Portfolio—the premier showcase celebrating the best in education design for 37 years. The award, which owes its name to the renowned American architect, recognizes this remarkable facility for its “cohesive design concept that connects to local history, traditions and context.” This is the top award nationally for all educational facilities from Pre-K to College.

Daedalus Projects, a CHA Company, oversaw the construction of the $36 million building, designed by Turowski2 Architecture and built by H. V. Collins Company. Completed in 2017, the 74,056 GSF elementary school—with its thoughtful student-scaled spaces, wonderfully situated roof garden, and state-of-the-art student facilities—encapsulates forward-thinking architectural principles to provide students with a safe, modern facility that lends itself to quality education.
