Aviation Project Manager Mary Kerstein, PE, has been named the 2018 ACEC Indiana Young Engineer of the Year. This award recognizes the accomplishments of young professionals who have contributed to the engineering profession and ACEC Indiana.

As a project manager, Mary works directly with CHA’s Aviation Team of engineers, designers, planners, technicians, and construction services staff to conceptualize, plan, implement, and construct aviation development projects for airports both small and large. Mary's primary responsibilities include budget and scope of work development for CHA clients, implementation of project schedules and work plans, oversight of the technical design development, and administration of construction activities. One of Mary’s current aviation projects is with Federal Express (FedEx) at the Indianapolis International Airport. This work is associated with the $1.5 billion investment in the FedEX Indianapolis Hub announced in January 2018.

Mary is also a champion of girls and young professionals in Indiana, encouraging young women to pursue careers in engineering. She has been actively involved in the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) of Greater Indianapolis for four years and currently serves as vice president. This past April, she helped organize the first annual Swings for Scholarships, which raised more than $4,000 for the WTS Scholarship Fund. She is also active in the Young Professionals Committee for Aviation Indiana, the Education Committee of ACEC Indiana, and frequently mentors and or speaks to young women about engineering careers.
