CHA Cleans Up the World We Live In

Posted May 14, 2018

Cleaning the planet is the first step in responsibly improving it. Recently CHA employees from our Indianapolis and Syracuse offices joined in some spring cleaning to tidy up their communities.

On April 16th, 11 volunteers from the CHA Indianapolis office showed up on a soggy Saturday morning to participate in the 2018 Indianapolis Cultural Trail Spring Clean. Since 2015, groups from around downtown Indianapolis have gotten together to pick up buckets, put on work gloves, and freshen up the trail following the long winter season. Our Indianapolis team has actively participated in the event since its beginning, and this year the team collected six trash bags full of litter, removed graffiti, cleaned drainage grates, picked up hundreds of cigarette butts, and wiped down trail fixtures. The clean-up had a major impact in getting the trail ready for the spring and summer.

Employees from CHA’s Syracuse office joined a record 400 volunteers to freshen Downtown Syracuse as part of the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc.’s Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 22. CHA volunteers donned gloves and green t-shirts provided by the Downtown Committee and filled up several garbage bags with litter found along the Onondaga Lake Creek Walk that runs through downtown Syracuse, along a scenic creek, and ending at Onondaga Lake. The path leads users past downtown landmarks such as the Syracuse University Warehouse, National Grid’s art deco office and the restored offices and condos of Franklin Square toward the Inner Harbor and Carousel Center. Thanks to the clean-up, visitors are now brought close to a scenic creek formerly hidden by overgrowth and trash.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make a positive difference!
