CHA Receives ACEC VA Merit Award for Engineering Excellence

CHA’s mechanical team proudly accepted a Merit Award at the 2018 ACEC Virginia Engineering Excellence Awards for the University of Virginia (UVA) Heating Plant Hot Well Replacement Project.  The project was very heavily supported by the CHA structural team, as well as the CHA industry and energy team.  Thank you to both teams for the outstanding effort on this project.

CHA was responsible for emergency design and construction administration services to replace the hot well tank that handles the campus steam heating utility condensate return at UVA. The project was executed during a highly condensed schedule as an emergency project, which was only made possible by UVA Facilities and Maintenance self-performing the construction.  All connected buildings, including the UVA hospital, continued serving the university and community uninterrupted before, during and after the project. At project completion, the temporary bypass system was kept in place for future redundancy.
